Some things are better made by hand. The imperfect edges, the stories stitched into every seam, the familiar faces behind the folding tables. Born from a time when the world stood still, Bellingham Handmade Creative Market set out to keep the spirit of shopping small alive. Part open-air market, part digital connection, Bellingham Handmade bridges the distance between local makers and the people who love what they make. Because community isn't confined to a place, and the best things in life have always been a little more personal.

When the world closed its doors, local makers lost more than their storefronts. They lost the conversations, connections, and communities that made their work matter. Handmade Creative Market was imagined as a way to bring those connections back, bridging the charm of open-air markets with the convenience of a connected world, starting with the city of Bellingham. As Principal Branding Designer, I led the research, brand strategy, and creative vision, shaping an identity rooted in nostalgia, human connection, and the beauty of imperfection. In collaboration with UX/UI designer Aidan Koenig, we brought the experience beyond the screen, creating a bridge between digital discovery and the familiar magic of shopping small.
Handmade Kiosk Demo
A little technology, a lot of human connection. Designed to bring the digital marketplace into the open air, Handmade's interactive kiosks would serve as a welcoming guide to local markets. Visitors could explore a live map, discover participating makers, and locate their favorite vendors with ease via an Instagram Plug-in. Proximity sensors would create a seamless transition from browsing on a phone to navigating the market in person, while customizable displays would give local artisans another place to shine. The idea was simple: let technology handle the searching, leaving more time for the wandering, discovering, and conversations that make a market worth visiting.
